Which stainless steel hinges do you need?

  • Stainless steel ball-bearing hinges: smooth-running and durable for frequently used doors. Available in 76×76 and 89×89, including heavy-duty stainless steel hinges or black ball-bearing hinges. You can also choose from black hinges.
  • Stainless steel hinges: mortise hinges or ball-bearing hinges for a clean finish and easy fitting and removal.
  • Stainless steel piano hinge: long continuous strip for flaps, hatches, table top hinge applications and furniture; available in narrow or wide variants.
  • Stainless steel gate hinges and welded hinges: for gates, fences and outdoor applications where extra load-bearing capacity and weather resistance are required.
  • Stainless steel concealed hinge: for cupboard and furniture doors with concealed mounting.
  • Other: stainless steel leaf hinges, stainless steel tail hinges, flap hinges and stainless steel hatch hinges for specific applications.

Sizes, materials and applications

Sizes 76×76 and 89×89 are the standard sizes for interior and exterior doors. 76×76 stainless steel hinges are often sufficient for lightweight interior doors. Choose 89×89 stainless steel hinges or 89×89 ball-bearing hinges for heavier doors or intensive use. For tall or solid doors, we recommend using three hinges to prevent sagging and distribute the load.

Choice of material: 304 stainless steel is suitable for indoor use and sheltered outdoor areas. 316 stainless steel offers the best corrosion resistance in coastal areas and damp environments. Fancy a different look? Stainless steel is available in brushed, matt or with a PVD coating, such as black stainless steel, for a modern look that complements stainless steel door handles and escutcheons beautifully. Alternatively, opt for brass hinges for a warm look, or gold door hinges for a premium finish.

Installation tip: use a suitable 89×89 or 76×76 cutting template for a flush fit and consistent hinge depth. Check the screw hole patterns and the hinge side in advance to ensure a seamless fit.

Buying tips at a glance

  • Door weight and height: match the type and number of hinges to the load; use 3 hinges for heavy or tall doors.
  • Application: interior doors, exterior doors, cupboards, hatches or gates require the correct hinge type and, where necessary, 316 stainless steel.
  • Dimensions: choose 76×76 or 89×89 and note the leaf and knob thickness, screw size and bolt spacing.
  • Finish: brushed, matt or black PVD for a uniform set with your door fittings. Prefer a lighter colour? Then take a look at our white hinges.
  • Functionality: consider self-closing stainless steel hinges or hinges with anti-theft claws for extra security on external doors.

Frequently asked questions about stainless steel hinges

Are stainless steel hinges really rust-proof?

Stainless steel is rust-resistant, not rust-free in the absolute sense. Under normal conditions, 304 stainless steel hinges perform excellently. In salty or very damp environments, 316 stainless steel offers extra protection against corrosion and rust formation.

What is the strongest type of hinge?

For doors, stainless steel ball-bearing hinges are the strongest and most wear-resistant thanks to their ball bearings. For gates and fences, heavy-duty stainless steel gate hinges or welded hinges are the best choice due to their high load-bearing capacity.

What does ‘inox’ mean in relation to hinges?

‘Inox’ is another term for stainless steel. A ‘stainless steel piano hinge’ or ‘stainless steel hinge’ therefore refers to the same material, which offers high corrosion resistance and a long service life.
